Sõjateadlane / The Estonian Journal of Military Studies
Sõjateadlane (The Estonian Journal of Military Studies, from 2003 to 2015 published under the name KVÜÕA toimetised / The ENDC Proceeding) is a peer-reviewed journal on military science topics. The open-access journal is published in Estonia by the Estonian Military Academy and addresses a wider international research community. It has an international board of editors and is open to international contributors. Sõjateadlane welcomes research papers in Estonian and in other languages (English, German) in the priority fields of war science (e.g. national defence strategy, security and defence policy, resource management, tactics and operational analysis, military history, military leadership and command, military technology).
Since 2006 the journal has had an international editorial board and editorial council with representatives of the research community, servicemen and people involved in the military in Estonia and other countries. Sõjateadlane encourages research dialogue and advances the knowledge of academics and practitioners both in and outside of the Estonian Defence Forces and its educational institutions. The journal welcomes contributions from the wider research community in Estonia and abroad that develop theoretical understanding of warfare and advance knowledge on all aspects of military affairs. As a publication on military issues, Sõjateadlane is mostly directed at active servicemen and reservists, but also everyone interested in military science and security policy issues.
The journal covers all aspects of human activities related to national defence and military operations, both conventional and other than direct combating, in the modern world. Therefore, Sõjateadlane can be called a flagship of research on the wide variety of topics on national defence, security and military issues. The journal contributes to research, policies and practices in relevant subject areas in Estonia and elsewhere. As a scientific publication, its aim is to offer a wider international research forum and foster debates in topics of national defence and security policies.
